Andrew Jefford, Trusting the Vineyard: Unearthing Australian Terroir

On the 19th January in London, world acclaimed Wine journalist, critic and wine educator Andrew Jefford delivered a masterclass on Australian wines. His knowledge of Australian wine follows from a 15 month tour of all Australian wine regions in 2009 and intense study for his highly anticipated book launch expected in 2012. For his masterclass Jefford selected 8 Australian Wines to demonstrate the unique Australian terroir. We are pleased to share with you that the 2006 Sutton Grange Estate was one of these wines. He describes the 2006 Estate Syrah as a “food wine” and further comments on its style with “ I love its savoury, ferrous character”.

Andrew Jefford "One Bottle" The World of Fine Wine

Wonderful news for Sutton Grange Winery with Andrew Jefford writing of our Sutton Grange Estate Syrah in his latest edition of the World of Fine Wine. In his recent trip to Australia, Jefford came and visited us at the winery and tasted a selection of our wines,  choosing to write in particular on our 2005 Sutton Grange Estate Syrah. In his 'One Bottle' article Jefford comments " Among the hundred of wines I have tasted since arriving in Australia none has struck me as more original... than the wines of Sutton Grange. The vineyard is isolated, sitting alone under the granite mass of Mount Alexander in Bendigo's former goldmining country.... terroir wines of some grandeur... magnificent and singular."
