2004 Sutton Grange Estate Antarctica
To celebrate the 10th vintage at Sutton Grange, we are releasing our first dessert wine, Antarctica!
Made from Viognier and Chardonnay, this sweet wine was made with a technique known as cryoextraction, where the grapes are pressed while frozen, increasing the sugar concentration.

Intense golden yellow, with nuances of orange or caramel, good limpidity.
Very good intensity, with a dominant of fruit (citrus, exotic fruit), spice (safran), and some mineral (limestone). With some aeration, some notes of white truffle are completing a distinctive and voluptuous nose, still dominated by odours of orange pill and marmalade.
First impression in the mouth is richness, given by the sweetness and the high level of glycerol. Aromatics are taking the place of the mouth coating texture, with a strong honey and fruit aromas, like kumquat marmalade, or queens paste. The acid level is quiet low, but the wine has a little bit of tannin to add to the mouthfeel. The finish is very aromatic again with the citrus dominating.
A "icewine” style which will need some time in bottle to mature, the concentration of sugar is still very pronounced, but would be enjoyable with some rich food, such as Roquefort cheese, foie gras "mi-cuit", or some citrus based dessert.
